Hi dears,
we are upgrading from AX 2012 to D365 finance & operations. also, we have a lot of users using different Modules & different data so, we were setup security role for them based on record level security to filter specific data for specific users.
Now, we need to apply this Mechanism to D365 but unfortunately we Knew that record level security is absolute feature and replaced with XDS ''Extensible data security'' so, we need to Know what is the availability steps to setup this feature from D365 interface not from Visual studio (AOT) as AOT won't be available for us into live ''production environment''.
Regards,
Hi Gina,
If your users simply need to pre-filter list pages to show only records they are interested in (but are still allowed to see the other records if they choose) then you could use personalisation to achieve that without a developer.

XDS is a development concept and so for any custom scenarios, you will need to use Visual studio and release the changes to test and then production in proper sequence in the same way as other extensions.

I would expect you have a certified Microsoft partner working with you on the upgrade process? They should be able to advise you in more detail, setup your development and release processes with you, build the policies for you if that's required and/or provide training on how to implement them yourselves.
Many things have changed since AX2012, so do leverage the partner to help you on this journey to ensure success! Good luck and enjoy!
