Customize Journal Transactions Screen (Grid View)

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I'm new to Dynamics and am trying to customize the "grid" view of the "Journal Transactions" screen to display the account description, preferably next to the account number.  I can get it to show on the "form" view but not the "grid" view.  Am using 7.0.  Any ideas are appreciated.

I have just sent a screenshot of 03010 with this customisation - I've just added a couple of labels for Acct and Sub and then popped the descriptions next to them.  The user will need to arrow through the grid rows to see each line's account.  Hope that helps.

Side note: I believe someone has written an add-on that will display the account description (at the bottom) for all screens where there is an account  number (also subaccount desc).  If you are interested, I can try to look up the vendor?

Hello, thanks for your post.  I have a similar requirement and was wondering if you could show a screenshot of how your customization works in gridview.  I think I am following along with your description, but a visual would definitely make it clear.  If you can't attach a screenshot here, please send it to me in an email at john.pope@ijis.org.  I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

You cannot put the label which displays the account or sub descriptions "next to" the account number in the grid.  This is because the field is (for want of a more technical description) dynamic - it changes based on the row in focus.

What I do, is put them beneath the grid along with a label describing what they are "Account Description: <field>".  The user then clicks on each line in the grid and the description changes accordingly.  Hope that helps.
