I am trying to extract 9 years of historical data.
I have created a column definitions as the attached.
When I get to the last few columns I have a error message - A previous column range overlaps.....
What does this mean, and suggestions to corrected so I can save.
Thank you
Diane
Thank you Greg for confirming the maximum allowed columns of 256..
And yes, I didn't thought about the "spread" function across multiple columns which could cause the overlap.
You'll want to check the header and see what the Spread From and Spread To are set to. This error message will usually happen if a column header spreads into another column that has a header. For example, if the header in Column I spread from I to J, you'd get this message since there is also a header in Column J.
As for the number of columns you can have, MR will allow 256 columns.
Diane,
I'm not sure how much columns your definition would generate, but according to Microsoft's documentation on MR 2012, the max number of allowed columns is 255... in the definition.
That doesn't tell you how much columns there can be in the output result.

I hope the link above will help you identify the issue.
Good luck.
Ok I thought this may be the issue. Remember something from training that I can't go back more than 5 years.
Thank you so much
Diane
Hi DNE,
Not sure what you're trying to achieve here.. but I've never seen anyone using MR 2012 to generate a report of historical data over 9 years, 12 months a year. This is likely going to overshoot the capabilities of MR 2012...
That would be 108 columns next to each others with every single month's financial results.
Remember that the output area of MR 2012 is like the old Excel 2000.. there is a very limited number of columns you can display and rows were limited to 65k or something. Once you have reach the max column (which is likely AZ), the output can go no further.
At least that would be my guess, as I've never seen such a large column setup.
PS: your layout shows actually 11 columns times 12 periods.. that's a total of 132 columns...
