Portal issue displaying a full form

Posted on by 575

Hi guys

Working on a Portal atm and I was wondering if there is a problem with displaying the entire form in one web page? I've tried all the different Page Templates installed and some will show the top of the page and no web form and others give me the general error message that something went wrong...but none of them show the entire form from Dynamics 365.

All I'm trying to do is render the whole form at once for a Read-Only form but nothing seems to work. I can add once of the tabs and the form renders correctly in the Portal but as soon as I remove the tab and just try to show the whole form the page gives me the usual error.

Any ideas greatly appreciated as always.

Steven

Check your form for any duplicate used fields and remove the duplicates. You can't have more than one of the same field being displayed in a Portal form...this was the solution to my issue so give that a try.

Try copying the form to a new name and use this form instead. Limit the info displayed and build it up to see if one of the sections/tabs/fields causes you the issue.

    Hope that helps

Thanx for the reply Nick, there wasn't anything in the form that should be classified as unsupported but I did have a couple of duplicated fields in the form (the tabs are used in different Entity Forms from time to time and my test of using the full form was using one of the forms that had duplicated fields).

Arpit, you provided the answer to my issue...wasn't aware of it though lol. Simply things most of the time!

    Hi Steven,

Regarding showing the form on Full Page - You could have used Full Page Page Template in order to show your Entity Form on Full Page of Portal.

Error while showing the full form - There are a couple of points to take care of:

    • Make sure you are not using the same field in multiple places (Tabs/Section etc) in the same form.

Let Say: In your form, you have placed an email field in TAB1, Now you cannot use this field again in other TABs or Sections on the same form. Otherwise, you will get Something Went Wrong error message as soon as you open the form on the portal.

Using the same field multiple times on the same form is supported in CRM but not on Portal. So I would recommend creating a separate form for Portal (replica of your CRM form and remove duplicate fields)instead of using CRM Form directly.

    • Make sure, you are not using any complex web resource/subgrid/Notes without having proper Entity Permissions

Please try this and let me know if still having an issue.

Mark this an answer, If it solves your problem.

    Cheers

    Hi Steven,

In general, there should be no issue showing an entire form.

Some Page Templates won't show the form at all - that would explain why some pages don't show the general error.

I suspect there is something on your form that isn't supported.  Are you using Entity Forms or Web Forms?  Either way, I'd recommend changing your configuration so that it shows just a single tab from your form at a time.  By switching between the different tabs on your form, you should be able to narrow down which tab is giving you trouble.

Unsupported form elements to look out for include things like iframes and web resources.

    Nick
