Management Reporter - Bad data and wrong base year?

Greetings -

I just recently installed Management Reporter (RU5) working with GP2013 (SP1). We migrated two simple reports from FRx - a balance sheet and a P&L.

Using the management reports for first time and the data is absolutely squirrelly.

Example - GL says inventory should be 1,500,000 and the report says 34,000 - wild numbers.

I even created a brand new balance sheet (no reporting tree) with just a simple couple rows (brand new definitions)  - single column (brand new definitions) - all brand new and the data is still off.

Also - the screen shot shows that MR thinks my base year is 2014 - which is really strange since 2014 is not even setup yet.........and the report date is always 12 months before the selected period and year. Playing with default base period doesn't make a difference no matter what I select the report date is always 12 months before the selected period and year.......

Couple of questions -

1. FRx - pulled data at time of report from GL - does MR work same way or does the mgmt. reporter database actually store GL data? I suspect it pulls data but I want to confirm.........

2. I heard FRx doesn't work with GP2013 - but my install seems to be working just fine. I ran a balance sheet and looks correct - I checked two accounts and they were both correct.......any thoughts on using FRx with GP2013?

3. Why is the base year wrong in MR?

    Hi Bron,

I can answer # 2 - FRx is not supported with GP 2013, but seems to work just fine in the (somewhat limited) testing I have done.

    Hello,

There may be something in your fiscal period setup that is causing Management Reporter to read your periods incorrectly. My guess is the dates are off some and that is why you are receiving incorrect numbers on your report, because the numbers are for a different time period.

Changing the default base period won't help any as you'd have to change the actual year and period. The default base period only sets the default date when you first open the report.

Management Reporter can be configured to use a direct connection using the legacy integration, or you can use our data mart which copies the data but provides many benefits including increased performance.

I would suggest building a trial balance using the Report Wizard or by using Edit | Insert rows from dimensions from the Row Definition. Try comparing a trial balance first since it is the simplest report.

You can have IT run the following query in SQL to see what Management Reporter has configured as far as fiscal periods based on GP. You may need to do some additional troubleshooting to identify what is causing problems in your fiscal periods not being correct.

    select * from FiscalCalendarView

The Management Reporter blog is located here. There are lots of great resources to get you started using Management Reporter.

    Ryan - thanks.

Yes there are fiscal years returned in the view and listed in the actual data table (Fiscal Years) - they are referencing the database 'TWO' which I did not initially load...........in configuration manager TWO is not listed.

Can I run the clear SQL script (like we do against the Dynamics Database) to 'clear' out any references to companies not configured (against Mgmt Reporter database)? Or is the clear script specific to Dynamics (logically I'm certain it is).........

Also, does MR have a 'repair' function?

Also - I'll try a trial balance but I don't expect good results - like I mentioned I have manually created a brand new Balance Sheet using new rows and new columns - and still getting bad data.

Fortunately FRx is still working :).........

I'm thinking of uninstalling and re-installing.

I ran repair - to no avail. I created a brand new trial balance - still bad data and wrong base year.

I have submitted support case with Microsoft (grab it Ryan if you're in that group)..........

I'm also considering uninstalling and re-installing.

    Your thoughts?

I have a similar situation in a test environment, so I'm curious if you've gotten feedback from Microsoft on your support case.

My GP Fiscal years run April 1 - March 31 with Fiscal Year 2012 ending March 31, 2013.

Using the Data Mart, the year shown in MR is advanced by one; if I pick FY 2013, Period 12, the report date appears as March 31, 2013.  I can see this in the FiscalCalendarView also; instead of years 2006 to 2013 which actually exist in GP, I've got 2007 to 2014.

Here's the thing - if I choose FY 2012, Period 12, then the report date appears as March 31, 2012; but the data that I get corresponds correctly to what I would expect for period 2012-12 (March 31, 2013).

So - I get the correct data by choosing the fiscal year and period that I want, even though the report date appears to be incorrect.

    Ryan,

What database is the  FiscalCalendarView in.  Is it in the DataMart or Management reporter database.  I migrated 6 companies and only one has an issue.  It shows a base year of 2004, pull down maxes at 2005. The report date is correct but it is really screwy. My fiscal period info looks good.  Could it be budget related?

As a follow-up I found that the fiscal year table for the company in question has ? an issue ?.  The id field is not in sequence the sourcekey field.  For example my id = 1 and my sourcekey = XXX||10| (fy 2003). My id = 61 and the source key = XXX||4| (fy 1194).  Could this be an issue and if so, any clues on how to fix?

I meant to say "not in sequence with" and (fy 1994). Sorry

I experienced this same problem with RU5.  You will need to go into GP and recalculate all of your financial periods.  Once complete go into Management Reporter under Tools and Refresh Cached Financial Data.  We just rolled up to RU6 and recalculating the periods is not working (we are still having period information showing up incorrectly).  I would not suggest rolling up to RU6 if you don't have to.
