Two Opportunities - One Order

We have a need to have two Opportunities, but only to generate one Order. Can anyone think of a way that this could be possible? We would need all Product Items to be pulled in from both Opportunities and add them all to the one Order. Our current process is a one to one relationship which we will still need the majority of the time. It's just going to be once in a while that we would need the many to one relationship. Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions most welcome!

Ultimately you'll need some code; I'd probably do this as a custom workflow activity, so you can call it from a workflow or dialog, and have the workflow control when it runs. I see 2 main options:

    1. Have the code essentially merge the 2 Opportunities into 1 (with all the products on it), and then convert that into an Order normally
    2. Convert one Opportunity to an Order normally, then have the code read the products from the 2nd Opportunity, and add them to the Order

The development effort is similar for either option; I think my choice would come down to how you want to close each opportunity - it the first option you'd have one opportunity for the whole order value, and the second option you'd keep two opportunities, so could potentially have different close dates, if that's useful.
