I've been going through the posts trying to find a definitive solution to the automatic client updates issue some folks are having. Does anyone know if this has been fixed?
I'm trying to use the feature for the first time to no avail. I have a GP test server set up for GP 2015 v.0898 and 3 other client PCs on Windows 7.
I'm attempting to apply the 2016 year-end update file (v.1010) on the server and use the auto client update feature to update the client machines.
After applying the update on the server and running GP Utilities, I can get into the client app on the server and set the auto update screen as shown:

But when I launch GP on the client machine, it says "A product installed on your computer is on a different version than the database version. You will not be able to use the application until this issue is resolved..." message and nothing else.
Our server is Windows 2012 R2, the client PCs are Windows 7, and we are currently on GP 2015 v.0898 and trying to apply the 2016 year-end update. I'm an admin on both the server and PCs and the PCs have access to the shared folder on the server.
Does anyone have an idea as to what I may be doing wrong? Someone mentioned a missing dll that was the cause on previous versions of GP. Could that be also true in this case?
