On Hand Inventory - Warehouse with no location

Hi all, I have an item, where if I look at the inventory, the InventSum table shows an on-hand count of 2. However, this item is against a warehouse that has a blank location against it. I cannot do a profit/loss, transfer, or movement on the item. Can I just delete that record from the InventSum table (either in the database or in X++)? Is there any other way to get rid of it. This item has had no transactions against it since 2011, so deleting it would be an option.

Thanks for looking at it Guy, I appreciate it!

I know I can't change it from the front end, but could I just edit it in the database or using X++? The users want to delete those records.

I'm worried about messing up the links between the various related tables.

I'm afraid it's not good news from me. Your setup says you're not allowed to post transactions with a blank location. And we've already found we can't change your setup to stop using location. So really, you have a situation that you shouldn't be able to get into. And I don't think I'm gonna be able to help you solve it through the front end.

Hi Guy, I tried in TEST, and unfortunately it wouldn't let me alter the Dimension group of that item to WH.

I got this message when I tried:

"The new dimension group cannot be assigned. The physical inventory has not reached zero on-hand, while 'Activate closing of non-financial transfers' is set to Yes."

"The new dimension group cannot be assigned. Physical inventory transactions might exist and/or financial inventory transactions are not fully settled, while 'Activate closing of non-financial transfers' is set to Yes."

Here is the inventory dimensions screen from the "Go to Main table" command.

I don't know if AX 2009 lets you change the Dimension group of an item whilst you have on-hand inventory. Do you have a TEST environment which is a copy of Live that you could try it on? If it does, you could change the Dimension group to 'WH', adjust out the inventory which has no location, change the Dimension group back to 'WH-LOC' and adjust the stock back in.

And if you get chance, could you right-click on 'WH-LOC' there in that screen and do 'Go to main table'. And post a screenshot of that?

Thanks Guy! It's currently set to WH-LOC (Warehouse - Location). I believe that previously it was set to only WH (Warehouse), which would certainly explain why those two on-hand items have no location. I'm not sure what to do about it though.

Sorry Guy, I'm kinda new to this section. Where is that found? Is it the dimension tab on the item form? If so then that is set to SHP.

I did notice that the Inventory dimensions display on the item was set to Warehouse/Batch Number/Serial Number, which is completely wrong. I've since changed that back to Warehouse/Location.

Hi Guy, also, I wanted to clarify that it is a quantity of two for one single item, it is not for two different items.
