Hi community,

I am trying to restore empty database on one of our client development D365 FO VM.  I am following this blog step 2: http://sinedax.blogspot.com/2017/10/empty-database-in-your-vhd-all-in-one.html.

On step 2, it is mentioned that there is backup file named // present in C drive under MS SQL server folder. But when I checked it in the SQL server folder in C drive, I did not find any backup file having name //. I checked all the folders in C drive but could not found.

Questions 1:
Where can I found this // backup database file?

Question 2:
If I restore the empty database, what could be the optimal way of transferring data from these tables into new database. Is the empty database contain these tables? If exist, should I use the SQL import / export wizard? Or any other best way. If not exist, should I create new tables and transfer data into them?

Has anyone done this activity before? please share the steps

Restore empty database on D365 FO VM
    Hi community,

After searching, I found that in LCS shared asset library, MS provided empty and demo database .bak files for various versions. Once you get to know what your D365 F&O version is by searching in the About section, you download your respective empty database version from LCS.

After downloading, take backup of existing AxDB database for safe side, delete it and restore the new empty database from LCS -> Model section.

Restore empty database on D365 FO VM
    Hi Ammad,

This is a quite old blog. I haven't seen or searched for this file for a while. Denis also listed a link to one of my blogs, which is not available anymore on that location. I moved all my blogs to a personal blog site. Here is the link to my blog about an empty database: How to start with an empty AX database in your local VM (dynamicspedia.com)

Can you also elaborate on what you mean with "these tables into new database"?
