Dynamics 365 Business Central Device User Licensing question

Hi all,

Is it permitted that external employees with their own devices  access Business Central via an interface? With the device user, a scenario is basically mapped that is permitted according to the license terms. The only open question is whether this can also be done with the customer's own devices or whether it must be done on the Business Central customer's devices?

I have the same question (0)

This really depending on what device and interface you are talking about.
There are very specific terms for when a device license should be used.
There terms are all lined up in the license guide.
You can find the guide here:

You can also discuss this specific case with your partner and have them check if your use of the devices are compliant.

When you say their own "devices" are you talking about their home computer or phone?  That would not count toward the rules of the Device License.  The device license was created for situations like a handheld scanner or shop floor terminal.  Using a standard client (web, tablet, or phone) does not count as a functionally specific device.  The User would still require either a Full or Team Member license.

This may not be what you were hoping for, but it is always better to be on the right side of Microsoft's licensing terms.

Thanks for the answer. I can confirm that the scenario is  following the licensing terms. We are just struggling if it makes a difference if the handheld scanner must be in the ownership of the customer or is it also allowed when the handheld scanner is owned by the company from the external user. I don't think that it makes a difference and the only question is if the Usecase is following the license terms, right?
