How to remove duplicate Closed Opportunity activities?

Hi,

So colleagues and me have been reopening Opportunities in order to make some adjustments to amounts etc but when they are re-closed the system creates a second Closed Opportunity activity, which is skewing reports.

However, I can't find a way to delete one of the Closed Opportunity activities.

This is for Dynamics CRM 2013 btw. And we don't ahve SQL skills in hosue to do database modifications easily..

    Hi Shroomer,

When you reopen a closed opportunity, the closed opportunity activity updates its status from 'completed' to 'canceled'.

So if you re-closed the opportunity, there will be 2 closed opportunity activities, one canceled and other completed.

You could create a bulk delete job in CRM ui to delete all closed opportunity activities whose status = canceled.

Please follow the link below to check how to create a bulk deletion job:

Thank you for reply Flavia. The status explanation helps as I can at least filter in reports.

However, the Opportunity Close entity does not appear as an option in the new Bulk Deletion wizard Search Criteria. How do I make Bulk Delete filter on Opportunity Close entities?

    Hi Shroomer,

You can filter through Activity entity, whose Activity Type = Opportunity Close and Activity Status = Canceled.

    Hi Flavia,

I'm not sure we're looking at the same thing. I'm in Settings > Data Management > Bulk Record Deletion. Then I click on New and get the Bulk Deletion Wizard. Click Next and get  Define Search Criteria. In the dropdown titled Look for: I cannot see either Opportunity Close entity or Activity entity that you are referring to.

    Found it. Under Related entities..

    Thank you!

I used Flavia's solution which sounded like exactly what I needed, but then I began getting reports of missing opportunities that had been closed, re-opened, modified, and then closed again. The original intent was to remove the duplicates on the reports we had.

So, it appears that because of a cascading relationship on the Opportunity entity, my bulk deletion job deleted BOTH opportunities-- the one in Canceled status and the one in Closed status!!!

Has anyone else had this same issue or Shroomer, did you implement this and experience the same thing?

It didn't appear that I could modify the cascading delete relationship either so wondering if I just need to filter the report differently...
