CRM 2016 On Premises

I apologise if this is the wrong forum, please can you point me in the right direction.

I am investigating the possibility of moving our customers on a legacy web application / SQL to a CRM portal. Due to the nature of our business, there are a few area's I'd like to test prior to making any decision.

I am by no means a proper programmer, and this project would be handed over to far more clever people than me. What I'm trying to do is get an understanding of how the portal works in relation to what we currently have, which would enable me to piece together the roadmap for a developer.

I currently have a test system which I have downloaded and applied the dynamics 365 customer portal (on premises )

Questions;

1. Can the login to the portal be beefed up to use two forms of authentication.  i.e their name and password and then random 'letters' from a secret password. If possible are there any examples

2. we currently have some 1500 users log in to our webApp, all with various permissions. From what I have read, these permissions can be handled by 'roles' Currently each user has a password in a custom field in the contacts entity, which would not comply with the 365 policy. As a system administrator, how could I generate a 'new password and secret phrase' to be sent to the user, and force them to change these on first login to the portal. Again , if there are any examples or suggestions

I know this is a bit sketchy, but I am only investigating if the portal idea is the way forwards and if so, the security of the user logins is of paramount importance. Things may change, dependant on advice and suggestions, but I would like to get a clear login demo working so I have it all clear in my head before approaching a developer.

    Hi PeteN,

    1. Yes it is possible to configure multi-factor authentication on CRM Portals. You will get more info on this link.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../set-authentication-identity

    2. You can pragmatically send invites to 1500 users, and they will get link. Clicking on that link will ask them to register and enforce reset password also.

    www.inogic.com/.../send-invite-to-contacts-automatically-for-microsoft-portal-in-dynamics-365

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Pranav
