Planned purchase orders created when stock available in overflow warehouse

We have an issue with setting up item coverage to allow planning to consider stock on hand in our bulk warehouses, as follows:

Our current coverage group set up allows for planned transfer orders to be created to pull inventory from the purchasing  warehouse into the production warehouses

However some stock is held at the offsite overflow warehouse.

The issue is that any stock that is in the Overflow warehouse is not considered when production is planned.  Therefor a planned PO may be created if there is insufficient stock in the  purchasing warehouse where there may be enough stock in the overflow warehouse.

Is there any set up that can be done to consider the overflow warehouse stock & create the planned transfer order into the production warehouse.

Thanks

Steve

    Hi Steve,

On the Coverage group you have settings for positive and negative days. Have a look at the next help page for information and examples related these fields. They can be adjusted to meet your requirement. technet.microsoft.com/.../aa552922.aspx

Note that Master planning setup is quite extensive and small changes in settings might have huge impact. So test settings carefully in a separate environment first. Also other settings might be related to this setting. As the complete requirements from your company is not known to me nor the current setup it is impossible to give a full detailed answer.

Master Planning can be configured to recommend taking the normal course of action. i.e. if it sees demand on the production warehouse, you tell it you normally transfer stock from the purchase warehouse. If it sees demand on the purchase warehouse (i.e. from those transfers) you tell it you normally raise Purchase orders.

What it can't do is generally take a look around all your warehouses and recommend something different on some occasions. In my opinion, you would need to ask the people reviewing the planned orders to check stock level in the overflow warehouse, and alter the planned transfer appropriately before they firm it.
