Check amount preceded by leading asterisks

Is this possible?  I either get too much space between the end of the asterisks and the amount or the asterisks overwrite part of the check amoun.  Do I need a calculated field?

I would take a look at this blog post.  It's old but should still be applicable:

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the post but we're trying to add leading asterisks, not trailing.

    Hi Deborah,

Have you tried making a calculated field to concatenate the leading and trailing asterisk with the check amount? This is how I make our code39 barcodes work with the SOP Number field on sales orders.

    Regards,

    Kirk

    Hi Kirk,

Yes, I did create a calculated field to concatenate the asterisks with the Check Total field (converted to a string) but the I loose the formatting of the amount - no comma (thousands separator).  Do I need to include another function in there to keep the number formatting?

    Thank you.

    Deborah,

I suspect the answer is to convert the numeric value to text inside of the calculated field.

There is actually an option in Report Writer to create a new Format  and fill the blank space with Asterisk. See if this works.

Thank you, MaxB!  I didn't realize that option existed.  I did get it to work by concatenating asterisks with the amount using the RW_Format function.
