GP9 and Office 2007 / Office 2010 Compatibility

Posted on by

Hello,

My client is on GP9 and we are still at the planning stages of upgrading them to GP2010. The IT Manager is wanting to upgrade their office suite from Office 2003 to Office 2007 but more so to Office 2010.

They are running Business Portal as well which handles their requisitions that link to Project Accounting.

My question is, does anyone see any issues with upgrading their Office from 2003 to 2010 while on GP9?

If so, what would i need to look out for?

Regards,

Jay

    Hi Jay,

Our company is running presently on GP 10.0 SP5, Windows 7 64-bit and Office 2007 (with tests undergoing for 2010), Business Portal 4.0 and Requisition Management. We use Project Accounting as well in GP. I don't see why you should have major problems along with GP 9 and Office 2010. The only important thing to notice is that you need to keep the Office Web Component up-to-date with your Office 2010 installation. If you're going to upgrade from O2k3 to O2k10, then it shouldn't be a problem, but if you're doing a new install, go & get the OWC files for Office XP and O2k3, and install them after your O2k10 installation, otherwise you're going to run into troubles when trying to export Data in grids from either Business Portal or GP into Excel... Since O2k7, Microsoft doesn't ship & install anymore the Office Web Component.

Be aware that Requisition Management does _not_ support in any way the Project Accounting from GP... That means you wont' be able to see any Project # or Cost Category in BP/RM.

We plan to move soon to GP 2010/Office 2010 to use all the potential of the new versions (integrated reporting for some GP reports in Office 2010, Dashboards, KPI, Excel PowerPivot, etc.)

We are using also the SharePoint 2010 environment and not the base WSS that ships with GP.
