$P_CRM is not defined when opening Contact lookup

Posted on by 5

I have been having the followingg problem lately:

When I have a lookup for the Contact entity on a form, and I open the lookup by clicking "Look up more records" I get the following error:

"ReferenceError: $P_CRM is not defined".

This error comes from a file called crminternalutility.js.

For some reason this problem only happens on lookups for the Contact entity, not on any other lookups.

What could this be and is there a workaround for it?

I want to add a custom view to some of my contact lookups and it is not working. I suspect this error is part of the reason.

For clarity: I am having this error on all Contact-lookups in my CRM environment, not just the one I'm trying to customize.

I am working with the following Dynamics CRM version:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Version 1612 (8.2.1.176) (DB 8.2.1.176) on-premises

Unfortunately, I can't upgrade just now.

I have no experience upgrading and my colleague who normally does this is on vacation for 2 weeks.

How can I open a support ticket? I have already looked around for that yesterday but could not find how to do that.

Thanks for sharing details, Neal. If it's possible, can you try to upgrade to latest version of 8.2 and see if it helps ? or, you can open a support ticket so that we can investigate it further.

    Hello Satish,

    Thank you for responding.....

This problem is not just happening on one form.... It happens on every lookup for the Contact entity, on every form.

I just tried a form I have which has no custom scripts at all. The form contains lookups for the Account and Contact entities.

If I open the dialog for the Contact entity, I have the problem again....

However, if I open the dialog for the Account entity, that one just works.....

The lookup for the Contact entity seems to be the only one affected...

Also, when I open the dialog for the Contact lookup the add-button at the bottom of the dialog remains disabled so I can't actually select a record.

And if I type in the little search-box, the placeholder text does not dissappear so it is just shown overlapping with whatever I type in.....

Is there anything else I can try to diagnose the cause of the problem?

      Kind regards,

          Neal

    Hello Neal,

One of the reason you are getting this error because of custom script(s) on the form. Do you have any custom script on the contact form ? If yes, can you try to deactivate and see if it works ?
