Will the Planning/Req Worksheet suggest an action of Reschedule and/or Change Qty. with Maximum Qty. Reordering Policy?

Hello,

When testing how different Planning Parameters affect the outcome of the Planning & Requisition Worksheets it appears that these 2 worksheets will only suggest an action message of Reschedule, Change Qty., or Resched. & Chg. Qty. if the item's Reordering Policy is set to Lot for Lot.  When I have the Reordering Policy set to Maximum Qty. or Fixed Reorder Qty. I only receive Cancel & New action messages.  I know that the Rescheduling Period parameter, which is only available when Reordering Policy is set to Lot for Lot, controls the timing of this behavior.  Am I missing some set up or does this only work with Lot for Lot?  I can't seem to come up with a reason why this setting & functionality should not be used with the other Reordering Policies and therefor was only configured to work with Lot for Lot by Microsoft...

We do not want the PO number to change and we also need some of our items to be set to Maximum Qty.  A workaround is of course to go manually change the PO dates based on the Cancel & New lines that are shown, but that is tedious and doesn't make sense as an intended solution.

Thank you!

- Donovan

If you don’t want BC to suggest to change the quantity or date of Purchase Order at all, there is a hidden field called Planning Flexibility on the Purchase Line. You can change it from Unlimited to None. BC will no longer suggest you to change or reschedule that Purchase Line. However, you will need to customize this. There is currently no standard way to change it easily.

    Hey Teddy,

I want the system to suggest changes.  However, the system is currently suggesting changes that I do not want.  When I have an item with Reordering Policy of Maximum Qty. the system always suggests Cancel & New when I have a date change in my demand.  I need it to suggest a Reschedule action.  It seems to only do this when I have the Reordering Policy set to Lot for Lot though, and that does not work for all of my items.

Try to put a dampener period if you want to system to stop suggesting date change.

The below link is for Dampener Quantity, but it is the same concept as Dampener Period.

    Hi Teddy,

I do want the system to suggest date changes and the system is suggesting date changes.  The problem is: the system is suggesting that I cancel the original PO and create a new PO in the req worksheet actions.  I would like the system to suggest a Reschedule action.  Also, Dampener Period is not available when the Reordering Policy is set to Maximum Qty.

Why not change reordering policy to lot for lot only for this item.

    Hello,

Unfortunately Lot for Lot does not work for items that you have a maximum quantity you can carry regardless of demand or scenarios where you have an item where you always want to meet a certain inventory level regardless of demand to accommodate demand exceptions.  Lot for Lot will suggest you order 1,000,000 of a product due to demand requirements when you can only hold 500,000 due to space or budget constraints.  You can specify a maximum order quantity with lot for lot, but not a maximum inventory quantity.  If for example you had an item set to Maximum Qty. and the Maximum Inventory was 500,000 and you did have demand for 1,000,000, then the system would suggest you place a PO to get you to 500,000, the shipment dates would get adjusted accordingly, you would then run the req. worksheet again and the system would suggest that you place another PO to be received after the first PO had been received and the sales orders shipped, theoretically.  This is why the maintenance of dates on all documents, utilizing order planning/promising, requisition/planning worksheet, and many other features come together to create a complete inventory management workflow.

Utilizing Maximum Qty. Reordering Policy is in most cases a simpler method as well for items that just don't require all the other inputs that Lot for Lot takes into account.
