I successfully downloaded the new media and successfully installed at our test server. Regarding the download, what would be the differences if any with the one on-coming in the CD as i have ordered one and am waiting. I also realized that unlike the previous versions it does not specify whether it’s a server or client platform during installation. I would appreciate more information regarding the above.

Regards,

Charles

    Charles:

We have something in common. Late yesterday I loaded GP2010 in our Conversion TEST DB Server with media downloaded from CustomerSource. Our Partner said that Microsoft will not be sending out media CDs any longer.

Victoria - thanks again for answering some questions. After loading GP2010 I wondered about SP1 but if you look at the 'About Microsoft Dynamics GP' window you will see in Version info - 11.00.1524 (SP1). This is extemely helpful because if my GP backup Admin needs to answer which SP we're on, there it is.

Since we're running dual term servers to the database server I was looking for the Client/Server load option as we had in v9. Thanks Victoria for pointing out that the media load is now all inclusive.

    Regards,

Well its almost same but with some new features and flow adds in 2010.

    Thanks

I don't mean to be a pain in the rear, but what exactly are you referring to? It's annoying to see a post for the sake of posting. What's almost the same? What new features? What flow adds? The guy's question was pretty straight forward... what's the difference between what's on the CD and what he downloads from the site. You could have easily said something like "typically the version on the site may include service packs; the CD is the RTM version and will not be updated to include these"... or something. Why post something if it's not going to add any value?

My 2 cents, copied from http://victoriayudin.com/resources/gp-2010-resources/

    Hi Charles,

I do not have the GP 2010 CD (most likely it will be a DVD), but I would not expect there to be any difference from the download. Unlike most other Microsoft software, GP licensing is not tied to the media, at least for now, so the only thing I can think of is that there may be an autorun function, which is really not a big value add. I know some companies still like to have have physical media for all software, but I think having to pay additionally for it will start being a deterrent to many.

Also, one nice feature of the downloads is that MS seems to be posting them up with the SP included pretty quickly – so there is already a GP 2010 with SP 1 download available. I am not sure how quickly the DVDs / CDs will catch up to that.

As you have noticed, there is no longer a Server/Client option during the install of GP 2010. Since the only difference between these was an additional folder that got installed with tools and since there was so much confusion generated by not being able to create new GP companies from computers where only the Client install was performed for older versions, it looks like Microsoft has taken that choice out of the installation options and now it’s the same install everywhere. I personally think this is a great idea.
