Management Reporter 2012 RU6 error

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We just upgraded from RU5 to RU6.  I have verified that the database, datamart, server and client were all upgraded.  However, when a user logs in, we immediately get the data provider error copied below in the service logs.  Also, when we try to generate any report, we get an error message in the application that says "Bad or missing data was encountered while loading the report and its building blocks.  Report generation has been cancelled."  I've tried re-importing the companies and stopping / restarting the services and nothing has worked.  No new companies have been created.  Below is the service log error we see upon login:

Microsoft.Dynamics.Performance.Reporting.Common.ReportingProviderFrameworkException: The operation could not be completed due to a problem in the data provider framework.

  at Microsoft.Dynamics.Performance.Reporting.DataProvider.Server.DirectLinkService.SubmitRequestErrorHandler[T](Func`1 requestSubmission)

  at Microsoft.Dynamics.Performance.Reporting.Security.Service.SecureServiceBase.SecureExecuteInternal[TResult](Func`1 hasPermission, Func`1 executor)

  at Microsoft.Dynamics.Performance.Reporting.Common.Service.ServiceBase.BaseExecute[TResult](Func`1 executor)

Component: Microsoft.Dynamics.Performance.Reporting.DataProvider.Server.DirectLinkService

In regard to my original question, we are using the data mart.  I followed DFC Consultants suggestion and dropped the DDM database & recreated the datamart, and we can now generate reports successfully.  I hope we don't have to do this every time we install a new roll up!  But at least it is working now - thanks for your help!!

You are certainly on the legacy.  The only other option I think it may be is if each currency may not have an ISO code assigned.  That is also one of the requirements.  You may not use multicurrency but each currency code must also have an ISO code.

    Hey Sarah,

If you open MR and go to Company --> Companies --> Click on the Company in question --> Click Modify does it show you are using the legacy provider or the data mart?

If you are using the data mart I wonder if maybe an additional column may have been added or removed to the datamart between versions.  To resolve something like that you should be able to drop and add the data mart integration back in the configuration console.  This would also include deleting the data mart database in SQL.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback.  I have seen several posts indicating it could be a  functional currency issue, however, we just upgraded from RU5 to RU6 and did not have the issue before.  I did check just to be certain and I'm 100% confident we have a functional currency assigned in every GP company, and we do.  We also don't have any blank budget ID's.

Looking through the deployment logs, however, I do see a strange error related to currency, but it doesn't tell me which company.  Any other suggestions would be helpful -error pasted below!

8/9/2013 9:30:33 AM - An error occurred while importing companies from a company import adapter. Additional information: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Invalid column name 'UseConvertedAmount'.

    Invalid column name 'ReportingCurrencyId'.

    Hello,

I had a similar message from the report queue yesterday and it was due to not having a functional currency assigned in GP.  I was aware of that issue when using the datamart but not the legacy provider.  It now appears both the legacy and data mart require a functional currency in GP.  The error in the event log did indicate the issue but yours does not so I wonder if there may be an additional message out there indicating in more detail what the cause is

Either way, I would check the normal provider issues like ensuring each company in GP has a functional currency assigned and that there are no blank budget id's in your GL00200 and GL00201 tables.

    Thanks!
