GP2010R2 Reporting Tools Setup - you do not have security access to the location where you want the reports to be deployed.

Posted on by

Hello,

I have searched the web, forums, Microsoft KBs, and blogs. I have used the MS Setup and Installation guide and have been unable to resolve this issue.

When trying to deploy SSRS reports via Tools>>Setup>>System>>Reporting Tools Setup I receive the message "you do not have security access to the location where you want the reports to be deployed"

Within GP Reporting Tools Setup I have the following (xx=our port number)
Report server mode: Native
Report Server URL: http://SRVR-A:xx/ReportServer
Report Manager   : http://SRVR-A:xx/Reports
Credentials : Use Windows Authentication  (have tried prompt for credentials using database "sa")

The URLs are valid. When I click the refresh button for the deployed tree it does retrieve without error and display the 'not deployed for x companies' information.

Environment:

Client: Win7, SQL Native Client 10.0 2009.100.2500.00
Server: SQL Server 2008, build 10.50.1617

Dynamics GP Session & Version from GP "Help>About":
Dynamics GP2010  11.00.1860 (SP2)
Dexterity        11.00.0354.000
ODBC Driver      10.50.2500
SQL ServerR2(RTM) 10.50.1617.0 (x64)

Information checked/tried so far:

SSRS is installed and in use. Access to /Reports and /ReportServer works properly.

SSRS folder security has been setup for user logged into GP Dynamics client for deployment.
Home folder Role of Content Manager, Publisher, Report Builder, Browser, My Reports
Site Settings System Administrator, System User

GP Dynamics started on client with "run as administrator" option.

Have tried users: SA, domain\Administrator, and the database dbo
Have tried a server administrator with same user/pwd logged into client and gp.

Within database DYNAMICS the syDeployedReports, syReportTemplates, sySrsReports, etc. all exist.

ReportingServerServiceLog;
when I click the tree refresh "ListChildrenAction(/, False)" is logged.
When I click on deploy "Call to GetPermissionsAction(/)" is logged for
each company. No other messages.

Background:

GP2010R2 upgraded from GP 9.0 in January 2012. No GP SRS reports were deployed in the past. SSRS was and is operational for locally written reports for the last several years. Currently using Visual Studio 2008 to write and deploy custom reports without problems.

Would like to implement the 'new' SSRS reports and KPIs that are delivered with GP2010R2.

Any assistance on what else to check would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

    Hi Steve,

Sorry to aks for confirmation, but do you have enabled the SSRS service on your current GP DB server ? what user credentials are you using to run the SSRS services ?

You may have a look to this article from MS about SQL Server authentication and GP : support.microsoft.com/default.aspx

Try to locate the following word document from the web "MD_HOWTO_VerifyKerberosRequiredBPBI.docx", as it was very helpful to me to understand the limitation of the Windows Authentication in SSRS deployed environment.

    Hi Beat,

I have SQL Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service running with Network Service account. I believe I tried this with a local account but am certainly willing to go again.

The link you included appears to go to the Kerebos artricle regarding Authentication in SQL Server. I will search for the other document you mentioned.

    Hi Steve,

You may give a try with a domain user (I remember having followed some installation guide from MS that was recommending to use an AD user to run the SSRS service). I might be wrong, but that works for me. My problem is that I cannot use the authentication for now because my reporting server is located on a separte system from the GP database, and more then two hops are not supported by MS, thus the Kerberos requirement. I the next redesing I'm going to avoid separate server installs. For BP5, MS recommends to install everything on the same server to make the life simpler (Sharepoint foundation, SSRS and GP). I will keep the GP separate, but will put the BP, SPF and SSRS on the same system.

    Good luck in your tests.

PS Note : I just flipped quickly thru the book "MS Dynamics GP2010 reporting" from Packt Publishing and the chapter about SSRS installation mentions that you should use 'built-in account' (i.e. Network Service) to run the SSRS ...  Then again, the IIS options are slightly different if you run on Win 2003 or 2008 and that could make a difference.

    Beat,

Thanks for the info. I tried an admin account for the service account with no effect. Now reset back to Network Service. I'll read up on Kerebos.

    Thanks

Is SQL Server running under an Active Directory account?  (you mentioned it above, but I wasn't clear if you had actually tried it or not)

    Hi Carl,

Yes, I have tried running it under an Active Directory account. Sorry if my earlier was ambiguos.

    Thanks,

Tapping into this thread with the same issue of not having security to the location where you want reports deployed.  SSRS is up and running on a Report Server (CUIRPT) that is different from the SQL Server (CUISQL).  But I cannot get GP 2010 R2 (11.00.1935) to deploy the standard set of GP/SSRS reports.

We are using Microsoft SQL Server  2000 - 8.00.2065 (Intel X86)   Jan 11 2012 18:00:51   Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation  Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2).

I am not trying to interrupt the dialog here but wanted to post so I can receive updates on this in case the solution also solves my problem.

    Hi Michael,

I don't want to disappoint you, but have you gone thru the ReportingServicesAdminGuide.pdf document from Microsoft available at Customer Source ? Chapter 5 states clearly the minimum prerequisites for the installation of SSRS report in GP (and this was for GP 10.0) : Windows 2003 (latest SP) and SQL 2005 SP2, IIS 6.0 at least and GP 10.0 SP1.

For GP2010 the same minimum prerequisites apply, except they added SQL 2008 SP1 and IIS 7.0. If you're interested in digging deeper into the Dynamics GP reporting subject, I'ld recommend the excellent book "Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 Reporting" published at PACKT Publishing, written by David Duncan & Christopher Liley. The eBook version is available for about 25$. This book covers all aspects of the reporting in Dynamics GP : SmartList, Excel, ReportWriter, SSRS, Word, SSAS & Excel, Management Reporter, where to locate the data, etc.. Over 300 pages worth the price.

There is also an internal document available from Customer Source that details the security roles that are deployed with the Dynamics GP SQL Report Wizard : https://mbs2.microsoft.com/fileexchange/downloadfile.aspx?fileid=80628e60-729d-4e47-bbd5-37af74ea39c7

I suggest that you download the latest SQL 2008 R2 and setup the SSRS on this one and then try again to deploy the GP reports...

    Steve,

Does the AD user you are logged in with have the proper security within SSRS.  It should be a System Administrator in the Site Settings and Content Manager for the Home Page.

    Hello Perry,

Yes the AD user is assigned SA role in the Site Settings and Content Manager on the home page.

    Thanks.
