What task is required to enable a user to open the notes window? We have a user assigned the AP clerk role and she is not able open any notes window as she gets the message 'Not privileged to open this window'.

Is this for Document Attach? If so, I add the inquiry-related Document Attachment operations to the DEFAULTUSER task. (They are under Product: Microsoft Dynamics GP / Type: Windows / Series: Company.
Lisa, this just for the Note field on any of the GP screens. No documents involved.
It looks like it is "Note" in Series: System. Do you have access to GPPT to log the security and create the task?
The Form_Note_1 through to Form_Note_5 windows are exempted from security and so will not be in a task or role. If you are getting an error it is from a different (possibly ISV) window.
Use GP Power Tools Security Profiler to identify the window and Security Information to work out how to fix the issue.
Here is what Security Information says about the first Note window.
What you show above is exactly what I see for this user. Using GPPT I see the Notes window open as part of Dynamics. Is there some table that is restricting her access to the Notes window?
Use the Security Profiler to see what is opening.
Custom code or Field Level Security could be used to block access.
There is something else at play as the 5 Notes windows are exempt from security.
You could use GPPT to capture logs.

After further investigation I have discovered that it is not the Notes window but the window that would open after you click Attach. I will keep digging.
When you click the paperclip Attach button on a note, it runs Contain.exe to allow OLE Notes to be embedded.
Is that what you are talking about?
The trick was to give access to the document tasks to the DEFAULTUSER task ID.

You said this was not Document Attach related, so I thought you must still be using OLE Notes.
Any, the GPPT Security Profiler would have identified this as soon as the user tried to access the windows.
