GP reports PDF created, but no PDF is created

Posted on by 55

Hi all,

I'm supporting a user in one of our sites. When she (we will call her user 1) tries to generate a PDF, GP reports that the PDF was created successfully however we are not able to locate the PDF. As a test, I set the location as the root of C drive (so it should appear in C:\<filename>.pdf). Everytime, the end report says the PDF file was created successfully but it does not appear to be. I have searched the entire computer for all PDF's and I am not able to locate the PDF.

There is another user (We will call her user 2) on site that uses GP and can successfully generate PDF's without issue.

User 2 has logged into the GP system using user 2's login info from user 1's PC, and the same issue happens. However, we are not yet able to test user 1 from user 2's PC.

Has anyone seen this before? It seems like a GP account issue maybe? I'm really scratching my head on this one. There are no errors at all. Nothing reports that there should be a problem, but there is.

Thanks in advance.

    1) Does user 2 on user 2 machine  save to c:\ ?

    2) Can user 1 on user 1 machine generate the pdf successfully to a folder in c:\ say c:\test  to which folder user 1 has read - write permissions

    3) can user 1 generate pdf file from any other software  - say word ?

    4) can you try to run process monitor  / file monitor from sysinternals and check if you get any access denied errors ?

So from your process of elimination above, it points to an issue with user 1's PC - or User 1's rights/permissions on that PC.

I presume when user 2 is using the PC belonging to user 1, user 2 to is logged onto that PC/network with User 1's network login? If so, a quick test would be for User 2 to log onto that PC with User 2's own network credentials? If it works, then User 2 has different rights from User 1. If it doesn't work, it may relate to normal users of that PC not having sufficient local rights to create the PDF file on that machine. You could further test that by logging onto to that PC as an administrator and then see if either of those Dynamics logins is then able to generate the PDF file.

Either way, these checks will help narrow the issue down, if it doesn't resolve them.
