D365FO - Self-billing customer invoice

Dear all,

I am looking for a solution for the customer self-billing invoice process.

Here s an explanation from Copilot:

A customer self-billing invoice is a financial arrangement where the customer, rather than the supplier, prepares the invoice for the goods or services received. This system is particularly useful for businesses that have regular transactions with a supplier, as it simplifies the invoicing process and ensures timely payments.

Here are some key points about customer self-billing invoices:

  • Agreement and Authorization: Both the customer and the supplier must agree to the self-billing arrangement in advance. This agreement ensures that both parties comply with tax and legal requirements1.
  • Invoice Preparation: The customer creates the invoice and sends it to the supplier along with the payment. This eliminates the need for the supplier to generate and send an invoice2.
  • VAT Information: Both parties must be VAT registered. The invoice should include the buyer's VAT number and the supplier's VAT information, such as tax rates and amounts1.
  • Payment Terms: The self-billing agreement specifies the payment terms, including due dates and methods, ensuring that both parties are aligned on payment expectations2.

The benefits of self-billing include time savings, as the supplier has fewer administrative responsibilities, and improved cash flow, as payments are typically made faster. However, it also places more responsibility on the customer to ensure the accuracy of the invoices2.

I am wondering whats the best way to achieve this in the system. Any idea would be helpful.

Additional challenge:
We are working with projects only, hence we need to find a way to get the revenues on the posted project transactions.

Thanks in advance, Adis

That looks like a 3rd party add-on product from Tipalti.  It's not a standard feature in F&O.

    Hi Adis,

The only self-billing feature in Dynamics 365 Finance I'm aware of is part of a country localization: MY-00007 Self-billed invoices - Finance | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn

    Thanks @André Arnaud de Calavon,

I saw the localization and was generally afraid that there is no feature for that process. I am a bit surprised we dont have that feature, cause it is not an uncommon billing procedure.

    Kind regards, Adis
