2010 Upgrade Issue

Posted on by 2,485

I am finally doing my upgrade from 9.0 to 2010 (2013 will wait until next year).  My version is at 9.00.0388.  When I go to launch my GP Utilities, it goes through the database validation and determines that the table are at a different version, which is expected.  it goes through the Dynamics database and stops and gives me a Company Detail window that say the Company Name - Dynamics database, Current Version - 9.00.0388, New Version:  110..0.2197 and has a Product ID and Table Name window, but nothing is listed.  It has an Errors/Warnings button and Details button, both of which are greyed out.  My only option is Close.  I click that and I get a box that says Update System Tables and has the text This release of Microsoft Dynamics GP contains changes to system tables.  Choose Detail to view what tables Changed.  It also has Choose Update to begin updating system tables.  Clicking on either button takes me back to the Company Detail windows with the Product ID and Table Name.

Any ideas?

Ok....looks like I need to build a new VM and try it.

    Thanks.

So GP 10 SP5 (10.00.1579) will go directly to GL 2010 R2(11.00.1752). There are more updates to GP 2010 after that and you can apply them to finish this upgrade.

I believe the path to GP 10 SP5 will then upgrade to GP 2010 R2 without having to go to GP 2010 RTM first.

So, I guees my option is to go to the highest 10.0 then highest 2012?

That hot fix is what is preventing this. It is always a good to check the latest upgrade path to insure the fewest number of hops.

Yes, I am running in a test environment.  So, I am still faced with a double upgrade no matter which way I turn?  I was under the impression that going to the highest level of 9.0, I could skip 10.0 altogether.  But, I guess not.

The list I provided shows the lowest level GP version you need to be on to upgrade. Since you have a hotfix applied 9.00.0388 you need to go to next closer and higher version which is 10.00.1368. You probably can go to an even higher version but since you have to upgrade twice anyway just go with what works. You probably have this in a test environment so you are free to experiment.

Ok....pardon my ignorance.  How did you determine that?

You will need to go to at least 10.00.1368 first.

This table doesn't have the 9.00.388 listed on it, which on the MS page, it lists 9.00.0388 (2011 US Payroll Round 2 Tax Update KB 2477913), which is applied.  On the Patch Requirement for the 2010 update column, it lists 2011 US Payroll Round 2 Tax Update or later (KB 2477921 - Version 11.00.1667 - English), which is an earlier version of what I'm trying to apply (11.00.2197).

    I guess I'm confused.
