PRINTING ISSUES - AZURE (SLOW PROCCESS)

Hi:

We have all our servers at azure cloud, we have dynamics AX2009; everything it´s ok, exccept printing process, or every process that has to look for a printer before  it starts.

If you have your enviroments at cloud, what things have you made to solve this kind of problems that dynamics has? As you know Dynamics even for open forms has to look to the default print.

Our AOS, DB an TS are at SQL Server 2012.

Plese some ideas!

Thanks

You would need to be more specific on what exactly is slow in order to get better guidance, since for a high level issue description we can only give a high level answer:

If you have a capable technical team, your developers could try to make changes in the area of selecting the printers since the code for that is editable. Like caching the printers on AOS startup, so it is not queried from Windows all the time, or doing a setup table and mapping which are the valid printers for specific user accounts, thus pre-filtering the list of available printers for selection. I have seen ISV solutions which are customizing how the printer selection works and doing some of the above mentioned.

However, if your problem is not with printer selection itself in the Print settings, then you'd need to explain what do you have problem with.

Hi, thanks for your responde, I have Dymaics AX2009, kernell version 5.0.1600.3596, SQL Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012R2.

All our enviroments are on azure, our prints are onpremisse.

For example if you go to Accounts Payable, Payment Journals, choose one, go to lines, and then print the journal, after you click on "journal" it takes al least 20 seconds before the print form opens

    Print-Journal.JPG

When our enviroments were onmpremisse those 20 seconds were lot less.

After the forms open, you click on Accept, also the time ww have to waint until it shows on screen are a lot of seconds

We have this issue with all reports

Do you think that the solution you gave is the correct?

    Thanks

Are you using a local network gateway to physically connect your printers/network to Azure, Express Route, Branch Office Printing, a third-party print solution, or something else?

What is your application version? I have found a couple of articles for various rollups that include optimizations for printing related issues, such as this one, but there could be more. The latest one is AX 2009 Service Pack 1 Rollup Update 8 version 5.0.1500.6491.

    blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../list-of-fixes-that-improve-performance-of-certain-features-in-dynamics-ax-2009

Also your kernel version is now more than a year old, there is a newer one, see here 5.0.1600.3916:

    blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../overview-of-microsoft-dynamics-ax-build-numbers

Also I have seen a couple of forums posts where they have stated that printing issues were resolved once they have updated the printer drivers to the most recent versions on their terminal servers, or wherever your printers are mapped.

If that still does not help, your last resort again is to collect a trace and see what is taking so much time. If it is contacting the printers indeed in Windows, then your starting point should be \AOT\Forms\SrsPrintDestinationSettingsForm\printerMap (hopefully AX 2009 is using the same form as AX 2012, since I have no such system in front of me right now).
