Hi!

Is it possible for Sales Quote customized report to auto adjust the printing/display oas per the item's description either with long or short description? E.g.: first line item/s with long description but succeeding items have short description

Now  the field for long item description is mapped.  What about the field for short item description ?   There are other clarifications which will be required  like, what happens to if the first line less than 25 lines etc etc... Over all the scope is clear and here are my thoughts....

For printing the note report writer system function RW_GetNoteText() needs to be called, which will parse the text into specified number of fields.  The problem here would be  ability to hide blank lines. The requirement as to swap long description and short description based on line number might be possible using ADO-VBA & Report writer .. (blogs.msdn.com/.../showing-the-full-item-description-on-invoices-example.aspx) but still not having the ability to hide blank lines through report writer is going to ground this approach.

Your requirement can be better handled via SSRS reports instead of customizing report writer. With SSRS the swap of fields can be easy and also there would not be a need to parse the text filed.

    Cheers!

PS : Bill on material at note field - interesting!

The field size for item description at dynamics GP is as follows :

Are we on same page ...... The maximum length for item description is 100 for long, and 15 for short.  25 lines for 100 characters  and 4 lines for 15 characters isn't it too much ?

    Cheers!

    Hi Sanjay!

You're right. Let's say first line item with long description (25 lines) then succeeding items will have short description (4 lines). Currently, we have a short and long paper format for printing sales quote. If items to be printed have short description then we will just use the short paper format, otherwise we will use long paper format for items with long description.

For combination of items with long and short description, we are using the long paper format just to print specific items with long description. But, it doesn't look good.

Question is, is it possible for GP Sales quote report format to have a one format only to be used for this scenario?

    Thanks!

Can you come again with the logic,  the first line item should print long description and subsequent line items short description ?

    Cheers!
