Journal Number hit max

Hi,

i'm having a very funny odd scenario here. We are actually doing customization to one of the client that will duplicate the individual companies' GL transaction into another database called consol database.

And i'm having a doubts whereby if so happen we are hitting the maximum number of journal, 99999999, how does GP application behave? will it run back to number 1?

We are hitting this very soon as we did not reset the journal number during year end. therefore, i would like to confirm will GP application being smart enough to roll back and start with 1 again?

Thanks!

The GL20000.JRNENTRY field is defined as an integer, so you could go as high as 2,147,483,647. There is no unique index on JRNRENTY. Now, I just tried entering 2,147,483,647 and GP converted it to 21,474,836 so they must have something in their code that allows only up to 99,999,999. However, since their is no unique index on JRNENTY one can only assume it will go back to 1 and start over. I can only assume if you tried to do a J/E inquiry on a duplicate JRNENTRY you would get both entries so this would like a bit strange. This would be true for both open years and historical years. At least with the historical year you could filter on the year.

When you close out the year, do you continue with the next J/E number or do you reset to 0?

    Hi,

GP does not allow  repeating JE number for a year.  If there are more than 99999999 journal entries in a year, I think you will get an error message but i have never seen such case. I think chances of this kind of issue are pretty low.

    HI Rubal,

Thanks so much for the prompt respond.

However, i would like to confirm something more. what if i am having 99999999 journals in one year, how does GP behave in that point of time?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Your guess is right. After JE number reaches its maximum value, it automatically reset the next JE number value and starts from 1.
