GP 2018 Installation Fails

I was just trying my first GP 2018 installation and was greeted with this message.

Component Visual C++ 2015 Runtime Libraries (x64) - 14.0.23026 has failed to install with the following error message:
"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel. "

Normally these products just realize they are already installed and continue but not with GP 2018. Did someone forget to program the installation routine correctly? I will simply uninstall GP 2016 but this should not be happening.

    Hello Richard,

I have Dynamics GP 2016 R2 installed on my server with Dynamics GP 2018 as well, so there's no issue that I'm aware. This is on a Windows Server 2012 R2 environment.

If not already, make sure you're launching the install of Dynamics GP 2018 using 'Run As Administrator' even though you're logged in as an admin, as I've seen that resolve issues such as this.

Interestingly, I can re-create this if I manually go into the GP 2018 DVD and in the redist > vcredist_x64 or vcredits_x86 and try to manually launch either of those files.

At the same time, on the same server, I have multiple installs of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable at both x64 and x86 versions, for 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015, so I'm surprised I didn't run into this error on my server as well.

This is with Dynamics GP 2018 already installed, along with GP 2016 R2, GP 2015 R2 and GP 2013 R2, all on this server and working.

Looking in our case history, I really didn't find anything else on this, other than what you already mentioned, to uninstall the prior version of the Visual C++ pre-requisite and allow the Dynamics GP 2018 installation to install it back.

Let us know if you run into any further issues with the install of GP 2018.

    Thanks,

Derek, it was very odd. It was the same exact version so I would have thought the install package would not even tried to install it. The fix was to uninstall it and then allow it to be reinstalled. All is well now. Thanks for your comments.

I know this issue was already solved, but wanted to add another situation I ran into. If Visual C++ 2017 is installed before Visual C++ 2015, the Visual C++ 2015 installation will continue to fail until the Visual C++ 2017 is removed. Visual C++ 2017 would be installed if you have any of the SQL Server 2017 tools loaded prior to running the Dynamics GP installation.

Thanks for the update Mike.........good to know with more people moving to SQL 2017 eventually..........

Thanks for the heads up on this, I made the mistake of installing SQL 2019 and got the same message when installing GP.

I looked in Programs and Features and VC++ 2013 (x86) was installed, VC++ 2017 (x86) and VC++ 2017 (x64) was installed.  Since the GP install was referencing the x64 version, i just removed the 2017 x64 and I was able to continue.
