Updating custom services to use latest version?

Is this possible? We have a custom service to grab property metadata from API pages, however it isn't being auto-updated along with BC. Is there a way to do this without having to republish it with references to the latest version?

If this is a custom API then you will need to update the API when there are changes in the BC releases that affects your API page.

Not sure if it makes any difference, but it's not an API page, just a code unit. I was hoping there would be a way to have BC auto-update the packages that the service uses when BC updates to use the latest available, but seems that may not be possible.

If it is a codeunit you have written then you have to update it yourself when you have changed any code in it.
