How to track inventory by batch number using inventory management in field service.

We have plan 1 and we are trying to manage inventory and warehouses (plan  -operations is way outside the budget coz of licensing requirements).

Any way, so the "Product Inventory" in warehouses show the list of inventory for each product "Quantity on hand etc", what we want is to also show Batch number for each product (one product can have many batch numbers So we want to see how much on hand etc for each batch number). Any ideas?

If the above doesn't make sense to you, you can look at it like this:

1. I create a purchase order and add the products and quantities.

2. I create a "Purchase order receipt" then

3. When I create the "PO Receipt Product" I want to not only identify the product I am receiving but also the "Batch Number".

What the system does now at this point is create a new "product inventory" line based on the info from "PO Receipt Product" I created above or update the current lines (if a product inventory was already created). Instead, I want it to also record the Batch Number for the product inventory so I can track them by batch number.

If you have any ideas on how I can achieve this that would be great. I thought it was as simple as adding a Batch Number filed on the "Product Inventory" and updating but it doesn't seem possible. I am getting frustrated trying lol

Thank you in advance :-)

What you are trying to implement might be more difficult than it seems on paper. The easy bit would be to create a 1:N relationship from Product to Batch Number and have it so users can select the Batch Number when they create Part Lines and PO Receipt Products.

The hard bit would be to implement a Product Inventory system for that Batch Number. You might have to create your own fields such as, 'Batch Qty Available', Batch Qty On Hand' etc and handle it separately to the normal fields. Or even you might have to create your own entity such as 'Batch Number Inventory Journal' and 'Batch Number Inventory' etc and make a complete inventory system from scratch.

I'm just throwing ideas out there but I think you might have to head in that sort of direction.

Thanks Thomas. Yeah! that's what I am thinking, to intercept the native application behaviour using plugins would be a big job and we might run into many hurdles along the way, so making an entire product inventory system from scratch would be the way in this case. I will just have to explain this to everyone and hopefully they are happy to just live without it for now lol

If we were to engage a developer to do this for us, do you think it would be expensive? (approximate figure?)

To add to our problem, we are in Australia Lol So the Finance and Operations Business Edition is also out of reach until next year's March, which makes things even more complicated.

It depends on the developer and location I guess. If you are in a large and expensive city then developer rates will be higher than if you are outside the city.

If you a looking for a very skilled crm developer for a 3 month contract for example. It might be something like £200 - £450 a day.
