Guidance Request for Transition

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

No action has been taken for the transition to Unified Interface in our organization.  In our environment we have Dynamics 365 - custom and CRM hub (which I don't believe is used).  When Microsoft completes the transition by 1/15/2021 what can we expect to see?  Will we still be able to access Dynamics 365 as we've been doing?  How would the access be to Dynamics 365 under Unified Interface?  Thank you in advance for any comments about this.

The data will be untouched by the transition, it's really just the UX rendering that will get a new experience.

Thank you for the info.  Do we need to do anything in advance to map our data or does all the data get mapped automatically?

Starting 1/15, your users will need to use a model-driven app and should stop using the legacy "Dynamics 365 - Custom" app as it isn't optimized for Unified Interface.
There are lot of guidance materials located here to make sure you're all set: Checklist: Unified Interface transition.

So in short you need to make sure that the model-driven app you're looking to use will be accessible to your users (with their security roles) and it contains the right customizations (dashboards, forms, views...).
You might want to test your customizations as well if you have some custom HTML or JavaScript web resources.

The transition playbook should also be very useful: Unified Interface Playbook - Power Apps | Microsoft Docs

Major item your users will notice are the design/layouts.  All the navigation moves to the left side and the main sections become 'tabs'.  Once our users got used to that, they loved it, prior they hated it.  I would recommend making your app more set for the users, IE if they dont use a section remove it, if they dont use an entity, remove it.  The terms are really area and subarea, you can do this from the Customizations section > Solution > then add the app (CRM Hub) or a custom one.
