Forecast generation for new item where historical data is on an old item number

Posted on by 175

Hi,

I am wondering if there is a functionality for this scenario:

We do have a spare part item in the system let's call it "Item A" that has been long existing in the system. In short, in terms of viewing historical data this item can tell it all.

Now, there is a new item released from the factory "Item B" that will in turn replace the old item once all the inventory gets exhausted and we should now use the new item code.

Requirement:

We want that when we run the generation of baseline forecast system should be able to consider the historical data of the old item (Item A) when generating forecast for the new item (Item B).

Question:

Is there a standard functionality for this? Or we need to export historical data of the old item and import it as historical data of new item?

Thank you!

Riel

    Hi Riel Mallorca,

I was thinking loudly, did you tried to create baseline forecast by using Microsoft Machine learning process because there are some parameters API's that you are build and get the from your old product. Please consider this option as well but you have to try it out test machine with your developer to help you to ML.

Some reference doucments to build understanding.

    Hi Riel Mallorca,

The only option I can see is exporting historial transaction from Item A and import them into Item B as that will be your new product going forward but that will be a critical activity.

But i still didnt understand what is the reason to replace an old product with new code.
