Products re-import not working

At Dynamics CRM 365 online, I've more than 7000 products. Now the problem is most of the products have leading and trailing blank space in product name. To remove these space I used trim() in Excel, save the file and then went for import. but each time it keep the file submitted with 0 under Total Records processed and so for others too (see below image).

Any idea/suggestion to sort this out?

    Hi Mohsin,

The fact that it is not picking up any records is quite confusing I can understand.

Here are a few suggestions and queries:

    * Have you tried saving the Excel document in any of the other formats and importing: .csv or .xml?

    * When importing the products, are there any blank columns or rows in your import file? If so, remove these columns as they can cause issues like the screen shot you've provided.

    * I have a list of behaviors I follow when it comes to data imports, have you tried all the steps I mention on this blog? www.ec.co.za/.../how-to-import-records-into-crm-2011 (It is an old post, but the steps remain the same) One of the steps I followed was setting the delimiter settings based on the type of file I was importing.

    * As for the product import, do you have the following columns included with data provided: Default unit | Unit Group | Decimals Supports | Quantity on Hand  ?

    Hi Barry - see following:

    * Have you tried saving the Excel document in any of the other formats and importing: .csv or .xml? - There were few empty rows so I deleted them, trim the leading and trailing empty spaces and save as the file again in Excel format.

*When importing the products, are there any blank columns or rows in your import file? If so, remove these columns as they can cause issues like the screen shot you've provided. - There was only one column that is Product Name, a few products name were empty so I just removed them.

    * As for the product import, do you have the following columns included with data provided: Default unit | Unit Group | Decimals Supports | Quantity on Hand? - I just need to update the Product Name, as mentioned earlier, there were leading and trailing blank spaces in product name. So, I just need to update the Product Name and import the file for update.

    Hi Mohsin,

I see, you have exported a list of products from advanced find with the intention of re-importing them with updates to their names.

When it comes to updating rows of data for the purpose of re-importing, I always copy out that column into another Excel document (to work outside of the formats Dynamics attributes to the data), then use the "Clear Formats" button within Excel located under the Home tab. Once I have completed the update, I copy the column back into the re-import file and import it as is.

I assume you did something similar to the above, did you remove all the columns that came with the export except for the product name? I ask because Dynamics exported static lists carry the ID of the records with it. If this was removed, it cannot lookup to the original product and update where possible.

Also keep in mind that the removal of spaces at the end of the name is not considered an update, therefore it will find that no products need to be updated because the text remains the same. I would suggest testing this by importing 2 product names with a "-update" at the end of the name.

What you can do (this is a suggestion now) is include additional text with the spaces trimmed, then re-import that data with the additional text. Then export again, remove the additional text and try re-import again...
