Inventory Item Card User Category entries not being saved for one Item Class

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Greetings all,

Using GP 2016, we have an issue trying to enter a value in a User Category in the Item Maintenance Options window.

The problem seems to be on the Category fields for items in one particular Inventory Item Class.

When we enter a value in a Category field, selecting from the available values, and then save the Item Card, when we open the Item Card again, and check the Category values, the values are blank again.

On the Item Class Setup window, we have pre-populated one on the User Category fields and left the others blank, and we are unable to get values to 'stick' in the User Category fields that are blank on the Item Class Setup screen.

This behavior only appears to be happening in one particular Item Class ('MISC'), and the Item Class Setup screen doesn't  seem to be set up any different than the other classes. Older items in the MISC class have the Category values we desired, but we're unable to populate the values in newly created items in the MISC class.

The behavior may have started when we upgraded from GP 2013 to GP 2016 earlier in the year, but I can't swear to it.

We'd welcome any suggestions to try to resolve the problem.

Thanks.

Mark, if you have the Categories set on the Class and then make the changes on the specific Item after creating the item - do you know if you have then gone back and re-applied the Class to that Item?

If you do, as I am sure you know the Categories from the Class will roll over what ever you have changed in the item card.

As a note I have seen a few things in 2016 updates from 2013 that appear to operate differently, but many of them we had decided that 'client' was doing something different and did not realize difference.  But this puts me in the camp of 'there must be a change' to the application - so I am going to be more diligent in monitoring those 'little inconsistency issues'

Thanks and keep posting - it helps others with same or similar matters.
