AX 2009 - Financial Statements > Row Definitions. Cannot add a new argument

(1) ShareShare

AX 2009, GL > Setup > Financial Statements > Row Definitions

I've never used this before. Accounting wants to add a new argument to an existing Row Definition.

I open the Structure Designer. I choose the row they want to edit. I double-click it to edit. I go to the Setup tab. I go to the "argument" section and add a new argument. A blank argument is added. And that's it. I can't edit the "Row Name" or "Row Description" of my new value.

My bet, of course, is that this isn't how you're supposed to add new arguments. I looked for documentation for AX 2009, and all MSDN had was AX 4.0 and AX 2012, which I found odd.

So, can anyone assist? Many thanks.

Poop, forgot to say I'm viewing it in Tree Control.

    Hi Beth D,

Can you possibly provide some screenprints and additional Information on what you try to achieve exactly? AX does not know the term argument and I am thus a bit confused.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

    Hello Beth D,

I attached you two screenshots that might help you Setting up a new row element e.g. for including a new ledger account.

    Hope it helps,

    Ludwig

    Thanks, but that isn't it.

We have an item on the right-hand side that is of the "Calculation" type. (The box where your screen shot shows "Dimension"). If you double-click on it, it opens an edit screen w/three tabs - General, Setup, Special Reports. On the Setup tab, there is an option for "arguments available". We can't add one.

Thanks for showing me the attachment button. For crying out loud, Micrsoft, use the same icons everywhere! Arrrggghh. Hold please while I make screen shots.

OK, first screen shows the elements that we need to put under the "Total Overhead". It is set up the same as the others.

However, when I double-click "Total Overhead" and go to the "Setup" tab, it is not there.

    Hello Beth D,

Not sure if I already got your issue completely but is seems to be related to the row calculations and the ID elements that you need to calculate. If you cannot identify anything in the grid in the lower right-hand corner you simply need to drag&drop the elements from the left tree section into this grid on the right. Please note that this can be a bit tricky/difficult if you do it the first time as AX might switch rows if you drop the elment to early. So, you might Need some time and exercise to get this right.

A note on your subtotal and total calculations: They appear to be setup at the same tree-level. I am not sure if AX allows this kind of calculation. If you do not receive any outcome in your report you might need to drag&drop the elements that make up the subtotal also into the total section.

Wish you all the best with your effort setting up the calculations and please be a bit patient with the form as the handling might be a bit difficult if you have not worked with it before.

    All the best,

    Ludwig
