Update analysis project failed with "File C:\Users\administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\2\ovhsmsuz\Test.dwproj does not exist."

I tried to update analysis project by using "SQL server analysis service project wizard". After confirming changes and getting to the next step, it always get error like "File C:\Users\administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\2\ovhsmsuz\Test.dwproj does not exist.". "Test" is the name of my analysis project in AOT. The related code is in "\Forms\BIAnalysisServicesWizard\Methods\updateProject". It use managed class Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Analytics.CubeUpdater to do the real work. First the tool generate a analysis project as "C:\Users\administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\2\Test" and then try to update it and save it to "C:\Users\administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\2\ovhsmsuz\". "ovhsmsuz" is a random folder to save the update project files. But this folder was never created. Certainly there is no updated project produced.

What's wrong with Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Analytics.CubeUpdater.UpdateProject? It's .net DLL method and i cannot debug it.

My AX version is AX2012 with SQL server 2008 R2. Any help appreciated.

    Hi Xin Duan,

I'm facing a similar issue, have you been able to solve yours?

Hello Ben, There are really some problem with my test probject. The wizard tool cannot handle this if problem in the project. I re-create it with wizard tool from the origninal perspectives. And now update works well. Maybe you meet the same problem. Anyway, you can always re-create the project and depoly it as a new analysis database.

Thanks Xin, I also found a workaround in the meantime, FYI mainly trying different variants of the settings:

    - [update native "Dynamics AX" project] vs. [creating new custom project]

    - [update native "Dynamics AX" DB] vs. [creating new custom DB]

    - [store in AOT] vs. [store as project file]

    - [create] vs. [update] vs. [configure] vs. [deploy] (incl. different sequences of these operations)

    and it eventually worked.

The origin of the error message i.e. the reference to a non-existing temp folder still remains unexplained though.

    Hi Xin Duan,

I got the same issues as you described, well the temp directory that it is attempting to save to is different, either way I am wondering what Log file you are referring to?  Is it specific to the Analysis service wizard?

The update wizard will create another copy of analysis project in a temporary folder for comparision. Because some mistake(exception) in the "Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Analytics.CubeUpdater.UpdateProject", the temporary project cannot be fully produced (some files were already generated). When the code return to X++, it raise the error "project does not exists". But I did not check out why the project cannot be produced. I already switch to version 2012 R2. I saw this function "Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Analytics.CubeUpdater.UpdateProject" changed a lot.

I still get this issue in AX 2012 R3 on SQL 2012.  I even tried stopping the AOS, delete files in AppData\Local\Temp\2\ and restart AOS.  This appears to be a bug that remains.
