Hi:

For an end user who does not use Business Central Manufacturing, the Jobs module, or Inventory Assembly, what is the best sort of sales document in Business Central that can act as a "traveler" prior to generating a packing slip and sales invoice?

I think I would go with either order confirmation or proforma invoice.

Hi, just a suggestion of which pages to output these, and for reports you can customize or use the standard ones.

packing slip: Sales Orders or Warehouse Shipments

sales invoice: Sales Orders, Sales Invoices, Posted Sales Invoices
