Scheduling future phone calls

The default CRM 2012 online app behavior "Add Phone Call" seems to be meant for "logging" a call that you just made... therefore, it is assumed completed.

How can I include a "Schedule a call" activity which will expose the due date and leave its Activity Status as Open?

you can use a workflow for this, or even a dialog if you decide to get creative. I have a client that created fields on a lead for instance with a date picker. If those fields are populated a workflow can run in the background to create an 'open' followup activity.

lmk if you need a bit more information, there are a lot of ways you could go with this.

    Hi Brian,

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I explained myself well. Here's what I really want:

On a contact or lead record, in the Activities wall section, if you click on "Activities", you have hyperlinks to "Add Phone Call" or "Add Task."

I would like to insert a new one between those two called, "Schedule Phone Call"... I could even see adding a "Schedule event" there.... but let's save that for another day ;)

When you click "Schedule Phone Call", you get a little pop up form that looks almost identical to the Add Task form... except it is for a Phone Call entity rather than a Task entity.

    Can that be done?

    How?

lol, nearly anything can be done. What time and expense are you willing to endure?

In the 2013 release of CRM (scheduled fall) there are options for quick add, it's not entirely clear if this will encompass all activities as well as other types of things beyond say contacts; If you're willing to wait, that might be your best bet. If you're online (and I suspect you are) you should have received a message telling you when you're slated for upgrade to 2013. The changes are pretty radical over the 2011 interface.

Hopefully that helps. Apart from that, you can always set the due date on a task (and make mention of the phone call) out into the future....

Thanks Byran! I am using the Online version... but since I am currently on a 30 day trial, I have a low tolerance for pain or expense ;)

    I think I'll wait, then.

That does look a lot nicer.

Where does activity history show up in 2013 (what formerly required you to look under Navigation->Common->activities)?

If you see in the middle there, it says Yammer integration, System Posts and then Activities. As you log activities against that account/contact they should show up there. Works that way in 2011 right now too if you have the process forms enabled.
