Error during Lead Qualification

(0) ShareShare

Hello all,  I appreciate the time your taking.

My users have been experiencing an intermittent error message during the lead qualification process.

As said, the issue is intermittent and thus the challenge of solving it has been difficult.

Has anyone experienced issues with this process before so I can try and figure this out?

    Hi,

Intermittent errors are the worse! Do you get an error dialog popup? If so, could you send a screen shot and download the log file if there is a button to do so?

This will give us more information.

If it is intermittent, then usually it's down to subtle differences in the data that the user is providing on the lead record.

    Copy of Error Code:

    Unhandled Exception: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.OrganizationServiceFault, Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk, Version=5.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35]]: Need to start a transaction before commitDetail:

    Hi,

The following post suggests that this is an error due to an associate request on a relationship that already exists (sliong.wordpress.com/.../crm-2011-need-to-start-a-transaction-before-commit-fault-exception)

Do you have any plugin code registered on the lead/account/contact entities?

Thanks for the responses so far.

As far as I am aware, no we do not. I have not done any plugin coding.  We do use ClickDimensions for our email service but that is all in terms of 'custom'.

It also sounds like this may not be the error.

As in, if an Administrator logs in and performs the same 'Qualify' action, the process goes through smooth as butter.

This lead me to think that it might be a permissions error, so far I haven't been able to prove this.  I have given myself the same exact permissions, business units etc of the users having an issue: only to not be able to replicate the error myself (hence the intermittent).

Please let me know if this sparks anything for you guys

    Hi,

It's very unlikely to be permissions error IMHO.

Are you Online or OnPrem? If you are OnPrem you need to enable tracing (crmdiagtool2011.codeplex.com) and get the full error message.

If you are online, you'll need to raise a support ticket with Microsoft to get the full stack trace of the error. This will tell you which module it is originating form.

It may also be a good idea to contact Click Dimensions and ask if they've ever seen this before with their product since it does register custom plugins.

Thanks for the help Scott, I am using CRM online therefore I will do as you said and contact MS support.

However I am slightly daunted in the sense that I will likely be 'out of my league' in terms of solving whatever error they DO find.

So thanks for the help, and I will likely be back with the next puzzle piece :)

    Hi

Is this issue happening for one user or multiple ?

Does the user gets the above error on all the leads that they are trying to qualify or is it just one lead that is having issue ?

Since you have mentioned that you don't have any other Plug in except Click dimensions, can you try deactivating (don't delete) all the Sdk Message Processing Step related to Click dimensions by going to Settings> Customizations> Customize the system> Sdk Message Processing Step> Publish all customizations then try if the issue occurs again or not.

    Thanks.

We have had the same issue.  It works fine for me as administrator.  We also used ClickDimensions.  What I have found is that the records in question had page views, visits, and posted form references.

After I qualified the Lead, I noticed that these references were updated, setting the Contact for the converted lead. My name was listed as modified by.

There were no workflows in place that do this on backend, but I did find a cdi plug in related to the contact entity that does something on create of contact.  I am suspecting it is cycling back after create of plug-in, where it checks whether there is an originating lead, and if so, updates the related entity records (mentioned above) to update the contact reference.

The users encountering trouble had basic CD permissions (which does not involve updating these types of entity records).  I will be updating the base role to allow write/update permission to these entities.

We have ClickDimensions and we are On Premise. The answer is to include Read/Write/Append/Append To for "Sent Email" and "Email Event" to the Security Role. This resolved my issue of the error message during Qualifying a Lead to a Contact record.

Note - Just had it crop up again after my suggested answer. I also need to add Event Participation with Read/Write/Append/Append To.

    Hope this helps.
