Im looking to move from 2008 sql server with 6 gb memory into 2016 sql with maybe 16 or 24 gb ram. Moving also is FRX into Management Reporter.
There are about 25 db and some db maybe gets 1-2 entries a month. Largest db is 1gb. Wondering if I can get by with sql 12-16gb and leave rest allocated to MR + OS. So on a 24gb server, max memory for sql is 12-16, leave rest for MR & OS. There are some small reports to run, nothing big, so I dont even really think I need more than 16gb total. But because this is VM, I can scale up the memory if needed.

I have the same question (0)I suspect this is too much of a open ended question to provoke a response.
If you are virtualised, you can change your setup relatively easily, so just give it a go and start monitoring the server performance and then tweak as required.
It is difficult to give specific advise as every company has different workload profiles and different data profiles making the specifics of your setup particular to a particular company.
