    Hi Dinesh,

Capacity journal is for utilizing capacity against non-productive activities like maintenance, break down, non utilization of machine hours due to lack of men power availability(idle time), etc. which you can not post by output journal.

    Also refer below link

After posting the capacity journal the system will utilize the amount of time entered on the capacity journal line from respective work center/machine center's capacity which is in load of work center/machine center against the stop code selected.

    Check the link:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh172850(v=nav.70).aspx

In the capacity journal, you post consumed capacities that are not assigned to the production order.

For example, maintenance work must be assigned to capacity, but not to a production order.

Check the following pdf for details:

    Agree with Ishan and Jiju.

In any manufacturing sector where there is requirement of tracking of work center or machine center, it needs to report the utilisation against the standard availability.

Now, You can report the standard output with time utilization done against the production order by output or production journal and can book the utilized capacity.

sometimes, it happens that due to some scheduled maintainance, breakdown or any other reason work was not being done on that work center and if we not book this instance then it will show non utilization. To have this information later on and to generate report it is require to book these instances with time and that is where capacity ledger entry comes into the picture.

You can create multiple reason codes for this and book the capacity entry. this will not impact on your production order costing.
