GP 2013 Upgrade - MR 2012 Processes Running - Safe to Disable?

Posted on by 365

Hello,

I'm on my test server and it's running pretty slow. I'm going from GP 2010 (11.00.2164) to GP 2013 (12.00.1570). This server is a mirror of my live production server, but not as fast of course. I'm trying to save some resources and I have a question about MR 2012 processes.

My question is, MR 2012 (CU8) also runs on this server. The processes "MR 2012 Application Service" and "MR 2012 Process Service" are running (both MRServiceHost.EXE). I know they 'read' data from the GP databases and write to the MR Data Mart (I know the Legacy doesn't, but I have both DM and Legacy setup).

Can I stop the services to save processes and memory? Will that hurt anything? I know on the test server it doesn't matter, but wouldn't that be a good idea on my production server when I upgrade in the future? I wouldn't want MR 2012 services to be using SQL while I'm upgrading, correct? Nor would I want it trying to read GP tables while they are being upgraded.

Thank you,

John Olley

That makes sense to me. I just wanted to be sure it was safe to do. Thanks again!

Stopping the Management Reporter Services would be ok as long as they were restarted in the next couple of days.  The Management Reporter Data Mart works with SQL Change Tracking by default the changes in Dynamics GP are stored for three days.  When the Services a restarted they will add the changes to the Data Mart Integration.  You will not be able to generate reports with Management Reporter during this time.

I don't think stop those services for the upgrade would matter. Management Reporter should have any activity during your upgrade anyway.  Just make sure to restart so your users don't call with errors in Management Reporter after the upgrade :)
