Process Manufacturing on MS Dynamics GP?

Hi everyone!.

We want to know whether we can implement MS Dynamics GP for Process Manufacturing projects.  I mean, manufacturing with recipes and formulas, batch creation and management and containers management. We know GP handles Discrete Manufacturing very well (PCs, Bicycles, high-tech - telephones, and more), but we have some potentian customers in the Food Manufacturing and Plastic Manufacturing  industries and we don't know whether we can use the natural functionalities of GP for managing recipes/formulas and the manufacturing order in batchs where the raw material is mixed and then products many cakes (food manufacturing) or bags/plastic packaging (plastic manufacturing).

I look forward to hear from someone!

Walter

I would look at Vicinity Manufacturing  (http://www.vicinitymanufacturing.com)

    or

     BatchMaster (http://www.batchmaster.com)

I have heard of people implementing with Dynamics GP Manufacturing for simpler processes (but the challenges are many).

I am certified on GP Manufacturing Modules V9 and V10 and I'm a APICS certified professional.

GP Manufacturing has been successfully implemented in process manufacturers - but it certainly is not designed for process manufacturing.

I would be very careful before committing to implement GP Mfg into a process manufacturer. You would really need to perform a needs requirement/assessment before committing.

Both Vicinity and BatchMaster are designed for process manufacturing and are integrated with GP. I prefer Vicinity over BatchMaster.

Horizons is also a viable option - although a couple of my clients have complained that Horizons has been slow to keep up with MBS releases and to fix bugs/address problems. They might be struggling to remain a viable entity.

    Good Luck......

Thanks to both of you for your answers. We really apretiate your help.

We are going to review the Process Manufacturing ISV solutions you have suggested to us, specially the Vicinity software. We don't really want to take innecesary risks trying to implement scenarios that are not naturally handled on GP.

We are located in Guatemala (Central America) and here we have a few information about what can we do with GP and these kind of scenarios, so we really really apretiate your answers. Regards!

I am just seeing this thread for the first time - so not sure if you've found a solution.  But I do know that if you are looking at a Dynamics Product you may want to consider NAV instead of GP.  Dynamics NAV has a very strong manufacturing module and there are a number of very good verticals that cater to the process manufacturing space.
