Installing GP in multiple office

Has anyone installed GP in multiple offices?  I have a new employee that is going to be working in a native village at the top of Alaska.  Instead of her having to VNC or Remote Desktop in a machine in our main office, I was wondering if its possible to install a copy of GP on her computer up there but have it connect to the GP Server here.  Can GP be implemented this way?

    Hi Chelle,

While this can work, it is not recommended (or supported) and is painfully slow. You would be much better off with a fast Internet connection and a VPN.

Another option is If the Alaska office were set up as a separate company, and your GP license allowed this, you could install GP in Alaska and then replicate that database with a separate database at the home office. Your reporting package could then consolidate the two. If you want everything in a single database, you could just use this separate company as the data source for an import into the base company's database.

In order to keep the master records in synch you would need to set up data pulls from the home office database to import into the Alaska company database.

It's a lot of details, but it can be done with some effort.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

If you can set up a tunnel between that remote office and the server you can definitely do this. The remote site would simply be a GP client just like any other client. Check with your local internet service provider to see what your options are.
