Developer License for Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Hello,

Is there any permitted way to get a NAV developer license when we (NAV developers/Consultants) are between 2 jobs? (So temporary not linked to a Partner). The aim is to stay informed and to be able to test new functionalities and behavior. This is a major problem as consultants and developers are very often working on time limited projects. The fact that a new version is nowadays published by year is not making the situation better.

Many thanks

Hi, I can recommend you to register on www.365talentportal.com .

They can provide access to Dynamics Learning Portal, and may be they can provide access to Demo DEV Licenses.

    JohnCage ,

Please note that its not possible,  Get the Developer License without been a Microsoft Partner (By genuine way) mean you have to purchase Developer License , but the problem is It is highly costed, you can buy Developer License from contacting your partner or contacting Microsoft

There are no other way to full access to Development on Microsoft Dynamics ,

But only way to survive NAV developers/Consultants out of the partner source : you can install product demo version and test every functional and development but its is very limited on development

    Hi Maneesha,

    I was expecting this.

But about the demo version, it is not really allowed to install it neither. As far as I know you must be a client of a Partner or a Partner what we are not.

As certified NAV, I could imagine that we would earn a little bit more "consideration" from Microsoft.

    Thank you

    Dear JohnCage ,

there is no problem on Demo , you can install it ,

If you cant install demo means its might be your setup corrupt or   hardware spec not enough but i hope your PC in good hardware spec

i have seen some setups on torrents sites , if you are allowed with torrents you can try by download a new setup

    Maneesha,

I am not sure why are you advising people to use torrent sites to download the software.  You are passing very wrong message, please think carefully before you give such advise.

The only option to get legally full developer's license if you do not belong to Microsoft Partner is to purchase a new one - the cost would be around 25k USD depending on the country. You can have demo license or MSDN demo license (refer here for differences: community.dynamics.com/.../limitations-of-demo-amp-msdn-license ).

In your case, I would suggest that you agree and sign some temporary contract with your previous employer (e.g., as a freelancer) so that you would be able to use its developer's license still until you get a new job.

    Hi

I'm sorry to reopen this thread but I really think this is an interesting topic. Especially because I don't understand the idea behind this developer license system.

In other areas MS has realised that development by the community is essential if they want their products to be continuous relevant.

Small and midsize companies has as alterative to NAV a lot of cheap cloud based ERP systems with all kind of add-on functionality and smart phone apps build by anyone and connected to the ERP system via APIs.

Probably most of these add-ons are build with tools like Visual Studio Community.

So it seems to me that MS supplies tools that helps the community to develop  competitor ERP systems and at the same time making it very difficult for the community to contribute to the continuous development of NAV.

Or did I just miss some important point?
