Performance issue in D365 F&O

In general D365 F&O users are facing performance issues in multiple areas. I would like to know the best practices suggested by Microsoft to improve the performance. We have figured out couple of configuration, but we need your suggestion on this. Below are some of them,

  1. Multiple online user sessions are showing up in online users even though the user sessions are closed.
  2. How to improve the performance in D365 F&O? Is there any impact or improvement, if we performed the below process in D365 F&O.
  • Reducing session idle timeout
  • User log clean-up
  • Cleaning usage data in User options
  • Batch history clean-up

Also I would like to have more suggestion from you. Thank you in advance.

Can you describe more details about the issues that you are facing? Also, is this a cloud system or on-premises?

    1. Also batch jobs are run in user sessions, so if you have batch jobs running, then the users who set up the jobs will show up in Online users

    2. This question is so far too general, please provide more details about your problems.

Did you check Environment monitoring in LCS? You can use that to get some details about possible issues and bottlenecks, such as long running queries.

You should also discuss with Microsoft. If you are in the FastTrack program, you can reach out to your FastTrack solution architect. Otherwise you can create a support request. Did you provide accurate information in the Subscription estimator Excel before golive? The prod system is sized based on the figures that you provided in that document.

    Hi NagarajanRajan,

First of all, you need to use LCS to check what kind of queries are running when users are facing slowness. Use queries from LCS to check current DTU, build top by reports, and analyze them.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../querycookbook

There are much more clean-up jobs you can run in the system:

    daxtechies.blogspot.com/.../d365-f-cleanup-routines-periodic-tasks.html

    community.dynamics.com/.../job-history-clean-up-in-dynamics-365-finance-and-supply-chain-management

Check if "Database index rebuild system job that needs to regularly run at off hours" batch job is running and check the results in System administration - Inquiries - Database - SQL index fragmentation details

You might want to read this performance troubleshooting with LCS tooling -

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/lifecycle-services/performancetroubleshooting

If still no help, reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance, by filing a support incident.

    Hi  Nagarajan,

There is also a training available on the performance monitoring options: docs.microsoft.com/.../
