CRM Online Production instance in Administrative mode

As we know it is possible to put Sandbox instance into administrative mode where only admins have access to. My question is how do we do that for a production instance? We would like to block the access of our users in connection with a big update on the production instance.

I am not aware of a administrative mode on Production instance. If you disable your users temprorily, they will not be able to access CRM, However you will not be able to show them a message. Still, you can send out a notification before doing so and disable users temprorily, after your changes are done enable them again.

    Hello Vassil ,

I agree with Deepesh , The Administrative mode is available only for the Sandbox Instance . However in Production instance you can change the Access mode of Users to Administrative .. It would something like this:

We can do this by removing the CRM licenses and keeping only the Office 365 licenses ..

    Thanks and regards

    Hi Prashant,

    Rather than removing licenses,

Access mode can be set to non-interactive(only SDK calls are allowed, which normal users will not know)

Is this on a per-user basis? If so, is there any easy way to apply this to multiple users?

The whole problem is that everything should be done on per-user basis which is a killer for organizations which have 100+ users. In our case it is 500+ and some users have Basic, some users have Professional licenses.

The best approach in my point of view is to set all users to Non-interactive via the SDK (requires coding but it's not rocket science) and then revert them to Full. If you have a couple of real Non-interactive users for integration you can manually fix them at the end.

You can control access on a per environment basis by using an O365 security group. Each organization tenant can be associated with a security group, allowing you to effectively limit who has access to each environment.

I have created the security group - how do I restrict access in the crm environment to this group?

Go to your list of of dynamics 365 organizations and go to the properties of the organization. From there you can specify an office 365 security group.
