GP 2010 Client Installation

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have the technet version of GP installed on my server and it seems to work OK.  Now I would like to perform a client install.  Unfortunately, the documentation is woefully inadequate.  I created an installation package but when I install from that share on a client, I end up with a whole new server installation.  All I want is te client stuff on a Windows 7 box to use the already installed server and database.  How does one go about doing that?  When creating the installation package, there is nothing that I can see that differentiates between a client install and a server install.

Thanks

Bert

And once you get everything installed, take a look at our manuals!  They are specifically written for users.

(sorry I do not have an installation manual)

OK, thanks.  I'll have to try it again.  It appeared to me that it was trying to initialize the database again after I installed it on a Windows 7 box.

I did use the manual that came with the product plus the manuals from the GP courses but I found them to be very sparse  - to the point that I had no confidence in what I had done.

There is NO difference in the installs.  There is ONLY a client install of GP.  When you initially install GP, you specify an ODBC connection to your server and use the Utilities to create databases.  When you install additional clients, you use an ODBC BY THE SAME NAME that points to the SQL server with the data bases already created.

There is an installation manual on Customer Source that explains the process.

Other manuals are available through our site.
