GP10 vs. GP2010 (Frx vs. Mgmt Reporter)

Posted on by 1,930

I need to do a new install for a client. I wanted to find out if GP 2010 is stable (if the bugs have been worked out) Or should I install GP 10.

Also, does Mgmt Reporter has any gaps when compared to Frx.?

Would Frx work wiht GP 2010.

The client is planning to use the following features GL, Payables, Receivables, Payroll and HR and Fixed Assets.

It is a government agency so there will be no Sales order processing, inventory, etc.

Thanks

BTW...there are a number of upgrades in Payroll and many system level upgrades.  You may want to get a copy of our book Version 2010 Unleashed that not only details the new features but explains how to use them.

I have GP2010 in several sites and have only noticed a couple of issues in Inventory that are all fixed with SP1.  But then you are not using inventory.  You should be fine with 2010

Rob pointed out our site that lists some of the new features and functionality gaps.  If it's a new site, the gaps are less important as you will be required to implement Management Reporter and not have the option to implement FRx.  The initial release had issues with the product and GP data provider, but this has been mostly addressed with the Management Reporter service pack.  You'll definitely want to apply this.

Sunil, as for GP10 vs GP2010, your best source to find out what different/better is the What's New help file available with GP2010. Take some time to go through it -- since you will not need SOP, IV, etc., chances are you not going to have that much more functionality, except for GL which now implements some cool budget features and ability to have more than one GL book.

    Sunil,

There is a great comparison of FRx 6.7 to Management Reporter on our website at the following location:

At the bottom of this page is a link to a pdf called MR Tips and Tricks.  It has a bunch of good info.

If this is a new customer - they have to use Management Reporter.  Only existing customers can use FRx with 2010.

facts that I am aware of:

    - obvoiusly gp2010 is better than gp10 in terms of bugs and functionality.

    - there is a good documentation comparing mgt reporter against frx, let me know if you need one. mgt reporter is better in terms of technology 64bit and so on, but it doesnt have a function similar to frx webport, where you only need an ie to view reports. recently MR releases the functionality of multicurency reporting.

    - check with microsoft in your region if you can still get frx with gp2010, in australia they are recently releasing GP2010 with mgt reporter only.

    - whether using MR or FRx, it has nothing to do with whichever module you are going to use in GP.
