How to find data fields in Entities

Our company is converting from Dynamics GP to D365.  We currently pull data from GP and load into an on-premise data warehouse for BI reporting.  Now, with D365, we are exporting data to Azure and then loading to our on-prem data warehouse.  As a BI person and NOT a Finance person, I have a couple of questions....

1.)  Is there any type of xref document that shows where fields that were in GP are now located in D365?  For example, we pull the Document field from GL20000 table.. where is that in D365?

2.)  Is there a data dictionary that would show what fields are in the entities without having to look into each one of them?

Thanks,

Geeco.

    Hy Geeco,

    for 1) I can't give you support.

For 2) there are some reports available called "technical references" which has "data etities" and "data entities fields" report as csv/xlsx files

You can download from here Technical Reference Reports for Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations | Microsoft Docs, this needs customer or partner source access.

To create the reports for yourself there is a project a Github which holds the code to build the reports from your environment.

    Hi Geeco,

For 2) you can use table DMFTargetXMLToEntityMap for entities and fields that they have.

    Hi Geeco,

I'm not familiar with GP. What is the GL20000 table? If you describe that, we might be able to understand what you are looking for.

The GL20000 table contains YTD Posted Transactions.  The contents of that table can be found here:

It doesn't look like this table is included.  When I search for DMF, only 4 entries show-up and this is not one of them.

When it applies to D365FO, Please try to update DMF entity list first from Workspaces > Data management > Framework parameters > Entity setting > Refresh entity list

    pastedimage1636381328546v1.png

You need to wait some minutes that entity list get updated. Once it get updated, you will get a message on Action center that Entity list was successfully refreshed. Please check #DynFOTech for more info: https://dynfotech.com/2021/08/19/data-management-in-d365fo/

Then you can check table "DMFTargetXMLToEntityMap" via table browser to get overview on entities and their fields.

    Hi Geeco,

You can't directly import YTD posted transactions in accounting entries. You need to use the "General journal" data entity. Create journal lines from the YTD posted transactions. Check the journal and then post it.

    Hi Geeco,

I know this might not be the direct answer to your questions, but what really helped me diving into the entities on our F&O Instance was the Chrome Browser Extension 'Table Browser Caller for D365FO'.

    Good Luck !
